Juliette Atkinson was a New Jersey born New Yorker. She and Elisabeth Moore were the top players of the late 1890s. Atkinson first made the US semis in 1894, losing to former champion Bertha Townsend-Toulmin. In 1895 Juliette beat her sister Kathleen in the semis and Moore in four sets in the All Comers final. In the Challenge Round Atkinson beat Helen Hellwig in straight sets to win her first title. The following year Atkinson lost in the Challenge Round in four sets to Moore. In 1897 Atkinson beat her sister in the semis and beat Moore in five sets in the Challenge Round to take her second title. In 1898 Atkinson won an epic five set final against Marion Jones to take her third and last title. Atkinson didn't defend in 1899. In 1901 she lost to Moore in the semi finals. In 1902 she lost in the semis to Carrie Neely. Then Atkinson retired.
