US Open 2014
Marin Cilic arrived on the scene in 2007 and within three years had established himself as a solid top 20 player. At the 2010 Australian Open, Cilic beat Del Potro and Andy Roddick before losing in the semis to Murray. At the 2012 US Cilic lost in the quarters to Murray. At the 2014 US Open Cilic was seeded 14 and swept aside Berdych in the quarters and Roger Federer in the semis before a comfortable win over Kei Nishikori in the final to become the unlikeliest champion in many years. The following year he made a good defence of his US Open title, losing in the semis to Djokovic. At Wimbledon 2016 Cilic had three match points before losing in five sets to Federer in the quarter finals. At Wimbledon 2017 Cilic reached the final, but was injured and lost easily to Federer.
